Cubist Literature is owned and operated by me, Craig Hunter. I am a self-taught artist, focusing mainly on knitting, silkscreening, and spinning yarn. Whenever time and money allow I am eager to jump at the chance to work in various forms of visual art. I have also been known to play guitar in bands from time to time. I am originally from Houston, Texas, where I also studied English literature and women's studies at the University of Saint Thomas. In early 2008, I decided to relocate to New York City in order to focus more seriously on running a business, better developing my craft, and further defining my voice as an artist and designer. I have always had creative inclinations, usually in the form of drawing and illustration, since I was a young boy in school. However, it wasn't until college that I found how truly rewarding knitting a scarf, writing a song, or sewing a t-shirt can be. I then became torn between pursuing a more conventional/academic career or an artistic one. How to be an artist (or an entrepreneur, for that matter) was not taught in my school. Nor did it seem to be encouraged. But I knew that the overwhelming satisfaction I got from creating something with my bare hands was a feeling I could not ignore. As a result, in early 2006, I decided to create Cubist Literature. It is my intention and goal for others to be able to take something meaningful from Cubist Literature because, after all, that is the great thing about art. Through my artwork--be it a t-shirt, a drawing, or a skein of yarn--I aim to speak to others on a personal level. Thank you for visiting Cubist Literature!
